Guard Sun Yue was back with the team today after missing media day and the first three days of training camp due to mononucleosis.
“The doctor said that I’m just recovered, so I still need a lot of time to rest, but I didn’t want to miss much in camp,” Yue said.
Sun ran a little bit, but said he still felt a little weak after not being able to do any physical activity over the past week.
Having Yue in camp, even on a limited basis, gives the coaching staff a chance to get to know his game and evaluate what they have.
“He’s a talented young guy and has drawn the attention of our crack scouts and personnel people so we want to see what kind of evaluation they gave him. How he fits in our system,” Head Coach Phil Jackson said.
The newest Lakers guard will not be ready for the beginning of training camp after being diagnosed with mononucleosis Wednesday night.
Sun Yue, who arrived from China on Sunday, was taken to the emergency room the same day as his introductory press conference.
Yue will be monitored by the team, but no timetable has been set for his return to the floor.
You can check out the video and some notes here, but if you just want to listen to yesterday’s press conference with Sun Yue, here ya go.
Sun Yue is currently meeting with the local media. We’ll have pictures & video from the event coming later.

A few weeks after agreeing to terms, the Lakers have officially signed guard Sun Yue to a multi-year contract.
Since originally agreeing, Sun has spent time starting alongside NBA players Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian for the Chinese National team in the Beijing Olympics.
Although China was ousted in the first game of the medal round, Sun played well, averaging 6.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
Team officials with the Lakers have confirmed that the team has agreed to general terms on a contract with point guard Sun Yue. The Lakers hope to finalize the terms and formally sign Sun soon. Per team policy, terms will not be released.
Earlier in the off-season, General Manager Mitch Kupchak had commented that the team hoped to be in contact with Sun about this upcoming season.
The Lakers drafted Sun Yue in the second round of the 2007 NBA draft at #40 based on his size and ball handling ability. Click here for an interview with Mitch Kupchak following the 2007 draft or you can watch Sun’s pre-draft workout from 2007.
Since that time, Sun, 22, has continued to play with his club team Beijing Aoshen and with the Chinese national team. The Chinese National team played in the 2007 Las Vegas Summer League and will participate in the upcoming Olympics, playing Team USA this Sunday.
This off-season the Lakers have also signed guard Dwayne Mitchell and drafted guard Joe Crawford, who remains unsigned.
Sun Yue would join Derek Fisher, Jordan Farmar, Kobe Bryant, recently re-signed Sasha Vujacic and Coby Karl in the Lakers backcourt.
