Lakers Today: 11/08/07

  • As reported in yesterday’s Practice Wrap-Up, Forward Lamar Odom is likely to start upon his return, which he hopes will be tomorrow’s game against the T’Wolves. Whether he replaces Ronny Turiaf or Luke Walton is up in the air and Phil Jackson is being non-committal about it. It’s possible that it will be a game-by-game decision based on the matchups each night. (Hear what Jackson & Odom had to say after practice yesterday on the Lakers.com Video page).
  • Turiaf has been enjoying his role in the starting lineup and isn’t worried about his impending free agency.

“I haven’t thought about it,” he said. “I haven’t even talked to my agent about trying to get an extension and stuff like that.

“Do I look like I don’t like where I’m at? No. Do I look like I don’t love my teammates? No. I love the way the city embraced me, the way they’ve been supporting me throughout my career here.

“If the Lakers want me to stay here, I’m going to be here. If they want to go in a different way, then, sadly, I’m going to have to go a different way.”

  • Jackson continues to weigh his options in regards to coaching the Lakers next season, with much of the onus still being on his health.

“I’ve yet to experience a two-game road trip to know I can get out of bed and get my clothes on and make it to breakfast in the morning,” Jackson said. “People that have been through this kind of thing have warned me that the telltale sign of fatigue from operations sometimes wear on you.”

Jackson also mentioned that the trip to Hawaii for training camp went well in regards to his health. Phil should know a lot more about his health later in the month with the Lakers embarking on a two game road trip next week (@San Antonio, @Houston), then following it up seven days later with a three game East Coast swing (@Indiana, @Milwaukee, @Boston).

Check back around Thanksgiving for a more definitive answer…. maybe.
